A Farewell to Kristina and Nina

Last night was the final home meet of the season for the Utes. Maddy, Bart and I went together and took Maddy's friend Valerie. It was senior night to honor Kristina Baskett and Nina Kim. It was really cool. They gave out these light sticks that would flash different colors, but when it was time to introduce our team, everyone switched them to red. It looked awesome! They saved the introductions for Nina and Kristina for the end and each of them came out separately with their family and friends. While they were talking about Nina, there was a blonde girl standing next to her and I thought she looked familiar. It took me a few seconds and then I leaned over to Bart and said, "That's Nastia!" Right after that, they introduced her family and her "best friend, Nastia Liukin." It was so cool! She made sure the attention stayed on our team and they made no other mention of her. She was wearing a red UTAH shirt and when the meet started, she sat at the scoring table which is at the bottom of our section. She was fun to watch. She would stand up and cheer for our girls and she had a video camera with her to tape Nina. We competed against #5 ranked Florida, so it was a good meet. On the bars, one of the judges gave Kristina a 10.0, but we couldn't see the other sign. All of a sudden, the final score board showed a 10.00 and the crowd was all on their feet going wild! Unfortunately a few minutes later the score was changed to a 9.75. I think the little girl doing the score board got a little excited and posted it too soon. Overall, it was a great meet and we won by a good margin. We broke the single season attendance record, which we previously held. At the end of the meet, I decided to try to go down closer to get a picture of Nastia. We couldn't ever get her to look our way, so I didn't get a great picture, but I did get a couple of okay ones. It was a fun night! Next season's tickets go on sale Monday!!!
