Mother's Day

Let me start out by saying this wasn't the best Mother's Day ever.  It had great potential, but it didn't turn out the way it was planned.  On Saturday, Maddy had a meet at Flip's in Bountiful that started around 5:00, so we made plans with Rick and Myrna to eat at Robintino's before the meet.  The food was delicious.  Maddy and I left to get her to the meet for warm-ups and save seats, and then the rest of them came later.  Keegan had a book report due on Monday, so we brought the Kindle for him to read his book during the meet.  Bart had not felt very good all day, and during the meet, it got worse.  He had severe stomach pain and started vomiting.  Rick took him home early in the meet so he could rest and try to feel better.  When the meet got over, Myrna and the kids and I were on our way home when Bart called me and said he needed to go to the Emergency Room.  I dropped the kids off with Myrna and went to pick him up at our house.  I took him to the ER and although the waiting room was very busy, luckily we didn't have to wait too long to go back.  They did a few x-rays and drew lots of blood.  Finally, they decided to admit him so my dad came to the hospital (at around midnight) to fill out the paperwork.  The pain was caused by an ileus from the colonoscopy he had earlier in the week.  He was also very dehydrated, so they mostly just wanted to keep him overnight to get fluids into him.  I got home around 2:00 in the morning.  Rick and Myrna had come and got clothes so that the kids could sleep over so I didn't have to worry about them.

The next morning, I got the kids and we went to church because Maddy really wanted to sing with the primary.  When I got there, a lot of the mother's were wearing lei's.  I felt bad because I didn't have one and Maddy kept telling me I should ask someone about it, but I didn't.  Since it was Fast Sunday, they decided to have the primary sing before the sacrament was passed.  As soon as Keegan was done passing the sacrament, the kids and I left.  On the way out, I saw the box of lei's in one of the classrooms, and Brother Kealamakeia happened to walk by, so he gave me one.

Then we headed to the hospital to bring Bart home.  I was very surprised to discover that my dad wanted to keep him longer.  We stayed for a little while, and Keegan finished reading his book, and then we left so that he could rest.  My sister Julie was leaving for the airport that afternoon and I had not seen her in months, so we decided to go up to my parents house.  We got there around noon, and no one was there because they were at church.  I was sure they'd be home soon, so we waited and waited and then finally left.  I was sad that I didn't get to see her.  (I found out later that they got home about 10 minutes after we had left.)  Then we went home to work on Keegan's book report.  We finally went back to the hospital and my dad said he'd rather keep him another night, but he knew he'd be able to rest better at home, so he released him around 5:00.

We got home, and I made chicken cordon bleu and julienne potatoes for dinner.  It was delicious.  Bart was on a clear liquid diet, so he didn't eat anything.  Earlier in the week, I had bought myself a new crockpot (a fancy 3 pot buffet server thing) for mother's day, so at least I didn't miss out on a gift.  Overall, it was a very interesting weekend. I did spend a lot of time with my kids on Sunday though.  What more could you want on mother's day?
