Maddy - Spring Level 5 Gymnastics

This Spring, Maddy changed gyms so that we wouldn't have to commute to Bountiful anymore.  It was a hard decision, but the best one for our family.  She competed in 5 meets this season.

Olympus - April 17

In April, Maddy had her first meet with her new team.  It was the worst meet I've ever been to.  The lighting was terrible and we couldn't see the scoreboard.  We weren't given a roster with the girls' numbers on them anyway, so even if we could see the scoreboard it didn't help much.  The lady at the gym kept yelling at the parents for not cheering enough.  When they did the awards ceremony, we could hardly understand her and she announced them in the wrong order (1st place first).  I will never go back there (unless they tell me it is mandatory).  The best thing about the meet was that Flip's was competing after us, so Maddy got to see her friends for a few minutes.

GTC - April 24

I was very excited to go to GTC because it is one of the top gyms in the state.  I'm sorry to say that I wasn't that impressed with the facilities.  It must be the coaches that make them so good.  Maddy did awesome and got a 33.925 all-around score!  Sooooo close. (She needs a 34.0 to move up to level 6.)

Maddy took 3rd place on Vault

North Davis took 3rd place overall

Flips - May 8

In May, Maddy got to go back to Flip's Gymnastics to compete in her old gym and see her old coaches and friends.  She was so excited to be able to go to a familiar gym and familiar equipment.  Her coach Jason ended up coaching the Vault (which she didn't think was fair because he knows all of their faults).  It wasn't her best meet, but she did pretty good anyway.  I think she psyched herself out because she was so excited.  It also wasn't the best day because Bart ended up leaving sick and then went to the hospital.

Utah Summer Games - June 11

In June, Maddy had the opportunity to go to Cedar City to compete in the Utah Summer Games!  It was very cool because they got to compete in the same arena where the college gymnasts compete.  Maddy did a great job and got a 34.1!  Enough to move up to level 6 next season.  She was so excited!

Check out that rebound!

Utah State Gymnastics Meet at Salt Lake Community College - June 19

Maddy did a great job at the Level 5 State Meet this year!  They started out on vault which is one of her best events, but the springboard was extra springy or something, so she did not do as well as we hoped.  She got a 8.1, which was actually one of the best we saw.  The judges were being extremely harsh on that one.  The next event was bars and she got an 8.7.  On beam, she got an 8.8 and on floor she got a 9.1 (good enough for 1st place).  She took second place in the all-around with a 34.55 total.  One of the coolest things was that two former Ute gymnasts were there to hand out awards - Nina Kim and Annie Diluzio.  She also got a lot of cool stuff from the team parents and coaches and the organizers of the meet.  It was great!
