On August 1st, we had our annual birthday barbecue for Bart and Keegan. We had hamburgers and hot dogs and all the sides you could want. We had creamies and snickers ice cream bars instead of cake. We played Minute to Win It games and everyone had a great time!
On August 10th, we attended our ward's Scout 100th Birthday and court of honor. Keegan was awarded his merit badges from camp. We are very happy that Keegan has great scout leaders and likes to participate in scouts. We are proud of him.
On, August 12th, Bart's Grandpa, Dean Bruce, passed away. It was very sad, but it was nice to get together with all of the family and hear everyone share their wonderful memories of him. I learned a lot about him that I didn't know before. I was asked to sing "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" at the funeral because that was his favorite song. Bart's dad hired a bag pipe player to play at the burial because the Bruce heritage is from Scotland. It was amazing. Afterwards we had a wonderful luncheon at the church. There were no "funeral potatoes", but they did have Ckick Fil A chicken nuggets (his wife Emma worked there for many years). It was a very emotional, but lovely day.

We had planned a camping trip in August, but because of the funeral, we decided not to go. Instead, we had a backyard campout! We roasted s'mores over the bbq grill and slept in the tent.
On August 21st, we went to the Bee's game with Bart's family. Myrna always likes to get the whole family to go to at least one game a year on one of the fireworks night. I decided to invite my dad as well and he brought my nephews Julien and Gabe. Luckily there were some empty seats next to us, so they were able to sit with us. The fireworks are undescribably amazIng and make it worth going to the game. It was a fun night!
On August 26th, we went to the Syracuse Elementary PTA Carnival. I volunteered with the food and bid on and won a digital picture frame in the silent auction. Maddy got her face painted. She slept in it and it still looked good in the morning, so she wore it to school that way. Her teacher made her go wash it off : (
On August 29th, we had our Bruce August birthday party - we always have one big family party every year because there are 5 birthdays in August - Bart, Keegan, Myrna, Jesse and Terra. A few years ago, we had a Hawaiian themed party and Maddy and Lauren wanted to do it again, so they helped grandma get it ready. We had bbq chicken (on the new grill we had bought Rick for his birthday) and lots of other yummy food. There was a "fish pond" and all of the grandkids got prizes, and then Maddy and Lauren put on a show for all of us. At the party, we found out that Paula is expecting a girl and they plan to namer her Vanessa.
